The work of Tara Tomaselli Photography is featured in the exhibition "Coastal Collection" at Hancock Hall, 31 Staples St., Danbury, CT

From her artist's statement: “Coastal towns have inspired me as an artist and photographer to capture and preserve beautiful moments and imagery. From seashells to seascapes, buoys to boats, and a variety of weathered architecture, I am drawn to their vibrant colors and captivating greys. Most often what I present is a close up view of an object or section of something larger. I want the composition to be simple, but interesting. I want to show the beauty in things no matter their current state.

The opening reception has been moved to Friday, February 13 from 4 pm - 6 pm in light of the forecast.

Line Describing a Cone: Tri-State Juried Exhibition at Katonah Museum of Art

"Crescent Use"
© Eric Camiel
Line Describing a Cone: Tri-State Juried Exhibition at Katonah Museum of Art, January 18 through February 15, 2015.

The list of accepted artists from around New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut may be found here and includes among them Mark Savoia of Still River Editions, as well as local sculptor Eric Camiel (Camiel's sculpture, "Crescent Use", is at left), and mixed-media artist Stacey Kolbig, of New Fairfield.

From their website: "The definition of space is one of the fundamental features of visual representation in twentieth and twenty-first century art. From the oscillating layers of a Cézanne painting to the deep corridors of depth in a de Chirico work, artists have addressed the elements of three dimensions in various and often competing ways. Using film as light cutting through space, contemporary artist Anthony McCall’s work, Line Describing a Cone (1973) inspires this year’s theme; the piece is spatial and temporary, with light the primary medium giving form to an environment. Artists are invited to explore the meaning of space in their work, using whatever materials and expressive outlets they require. Representing space is but one potential feature; experiencing with works that proclaim their physical relationship to their environment another."

The exhibit was juried by Eva Respini, Curator at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Katonah Museum of Art is located at 134 Jay St., Katonah, New York.

Carriage Barn seeking entries for SPECTRUM: 26th Annual Show (no photography)

The Carriage Barn Arts Center in New Canaan, CT seeks submissions in all media except photography focusing on the exhibition theme "Elemental Energies" for SPECTRUM, it's 26th Annual Show. Prospectus found here. Entry deadline January 29, 2015. The exhibit will run Saturday, February 28 through Sunday, March 29, 2015.

From their email to artists: "Artwork in all media, except photography, will be considered. Artists should make note of exact materials and any distinctive presentation of the artwork if applicable.

This year's exhibition theme, Elemental Energies, focuses on the four elements, namely earth, air, fire, and water. These four elements of astrological tradition refer to the vital forces or energies that make up the universe. A tradition of representing the elements in art stems back to the Renaissance and was especially popular in the Netherlands. This system of ordering the world can be interpreted broadly. For example, Earth can be represented by landscapes, animals, plants, or works made of natural materials. Fire, the element that is used to create sculpture or glass, can categorize most three-dimensional works or be represented literally.

JUROR
Amy Smith-Stewart is the Curator at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield."
