Marko Susla is among the finalists whose work is being exhibited in "Searching for the Perfect Storm", a storm-themed juried group photography exhibition at Method Art, Scottsdale, AZ. The exhibit began on January 3, and is on view until February 25, 2012.

Images from the show may be viewed here.

Christine Brooks Cote of the Still Point Art Gallery, at which Susla is a Gallery Artist, wrote about Susla's work:

“Marko Susla pursued independent study in photography and is currently under the mentorship of a fine art professional. His current interests are disparate, ranging from the beauty of scenic and landscape photography, the dark side of documenting abandoned structures and places, and, most recently, the beauty and drama of nocturnal photography. Perhaps what seems disparate is actually a balance.

Marko Susla's work has been shown in a number of exhibitions around the United States, including: Vermont Photography Workplace in Middlebury, Vermont; The Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, Colorado; Presidio of San Francisco and New Orleans. His work was also part of an online gallery project based in Kópavogur, Iceland. Susla has also had work published in Burn Magazine and SuperMassiveBlackHole.”

"Low Fidelity: The Photographs of Bobby Grossman 1975-1983" will be at Vertu Fine Art, Boca Raton, Florida from February 16 through March 15, 2012.

The exhibition of mostly black-and-white photographs captures a time when New York City was still gritty. After graduating from RISD, Bobby Grossman was in the heart of the downtown art and music media scene, documenting the human landscape which included many up-and-coming and already notable scenesters.
He was the official photographer for Glenn O'Brien's TV Party, punk-dada public access TV program, which featured a rotating cast of characters that included O'Brien, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Debbie Harry and Fab 5 Freddy.

Grossman's images of Debbie Harry, and a contact sheet of Andy Warhol eating cornflakes are the centerpieces of the show.

There is a preview of the images here on Vertu's website.

The silver gelatin prints for the exhibition were printed by Master Printer Catherine Vanaria of Connecticut Photographics.

There is an opening reception at Vertu Fine Art on Thursday, February 16 from 7 - 10 p.m. Vertu Fine Art is located at 5250 Town Center Circle Suite 128 in Boca Raton, Florida

Ben Larrabee's "Ships Inn" at Rowayton Arts Center

Photographer Ben Larrabee's intimate black and white portrait of his wife and muse Trudie Larrabee was accepted into the juried show "Expressions" at Rowayton Arts Center. The show is on display from February 5 through February 26, 2012 at Rowayton Arts Center, 145 Rowayton Ave., Rowayton, CT.

Ben Larrabee writes about the experience and image:

 "02.06.12
Ships Inn, 2011

When Trudie and I went to Nantucket last summer for our two weeks of shooting, we spent the first day at Ships Inn before our rental was available.

We discovered that the first day had to be a transition day.

It became a day to shift our energy, tune into each other, allowing time to reorient and connect. We had no agenda, no place to go, nothing to do.

As I looked at Trudie I began to “see” her sitting in the window in a moment of reflection as she wrote down her thoughts about being a muse and our life together. I was inspired to photograph this moment in our lives. A moment that becomes one of the many in the body of work that shows our life together.

I love the layers; foreground, middleground and background, Trudie’s shape, the patterns and textures of the cushion, wallpaper and leaves outside."

Fourteen Threadless Needles
Photographs by Vito Pasquale

January 5 - March 30, 2012
Opening reception Saturday, January 28, 2012 4-6 pm*
*Snow date: Saturday, February 4, 2012, 4 - 6 pm

Vito Pasquale is a photographer and writer from Mount Kisco, NY. He is one of those people who, upon retiring from the full-time job he'd done in corporate America for almost thirty years, began to "peek down, as Frost would call it, 'the road not taken'". In 2008, Pasquale returned to writing after a long hiatus, and in 2009 he began taking photographs that reflected some of the themes in his writing. His book of poetry, Fourteen Threadless Needles, was published in 2011.

Many of Pasquale's photographs are abstracts and photo-manipulations that go beyond taking the world at face value. In his poem, "(Somewhere) After Silence (and) Before Regret", Pasquale refers to ". . .the surprisingly elastic properties of a dream." The photographs dance around that dream-state in the everyday.

Included in the show are several photographs that relate to Pasquale's history in the Danbury area. He grew up in Mount Kisco, NY and his father worked in Danbury until 1966 at a construction company that was located near the site of the train station just up Liberty Street. Coincidentally, this is a short distance from the Gallery at Still River Editions.

The fourteen photographs are connected to poems posted online via QR codes, which viewers can scan using their smart phones, or look at online in the gallery.

Give the Gift of Your Photographs or Art Prints
As you may know, photographs and prints of artwork make great gifts. Let us help you with your list this year! We can print on a selection of archival fine art papers and canvas.

Fine Art
The Affordable Art Exhibition and Sale will run until December 23--there are prints by 14 Connecticut artists, each priced at $100. Stop by and take a look if you haven't--it's a no-pressure atmosphere. The price is an amazing bargain given the talent and history of the artists included. If you live far away and are looking for something, I will email you jpgs on request.

Retouching
One of the most satisfying parts of my job is restoring photographs that have been ravaged by time. The originals are digitized with the utmost care, and we then work on the digital files. Come in for an evaluation/quote and look at our portfolio.

Small Works
Koenig FrameWorks in Newtown and Art & Frame of Danbury both have small works shows up for the holidays--support local business, and get some amazing originals by talented artists. Small works are a great way to build up a world-class art collection, and are an amazing bargain.

Be well, and let us know if there's anything we can do!

Colin Burke will be giving an artist's talk on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 5:30 pm at the Whitney Library of the New Haven Museum. Burke will discuss Deliquescence, his site-specific, interactive, multi-media installation which was commissioned by Artspace New Haven, and researched during a residency there. It includes multitudinous feet of microfilm from the New York Times collection previously destined for the landfill. Its enveloped columns reference a pair of New Haven elm trees planted 300 years ago.

The New Haven Museum is located at 114 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT.

The installation is part of a multi-venue exhibit called Library Science that features work by 17 international and seven New Haven-area artists, and was curated by Rachel Gugelberger, Senior Curator at Exit Art, New York. The exhibition runs from November 12, 2011 until January 28, 2012. The main gallery is Artspace New Haven, 50 Orange St., New Haven. Gallery views may be seen here.

Colin Burke is a multi-faceted visual artist who works in analog methods, including cyanotype photograms. He has also championed the camera obscura.

For more information: CT Art Scene has posted the entire press release, which is worth reading for more information.

FrameWorks' Small Works: Affordable Art for Small Spaces opens Friday December 2

Koenig FrameWorks is hosting its annual holiday small works show "Small Works: Affordable Art for Small Spaces", with over 140 pieces of framed, ready-to-hang original art made by local artists, each priced under $100. The exhibit and sale runs from Friday, December 2, to Saturday, December 24, 2011.

The opening reception is Friday, December 2, from 6 pm - 9 pm. Koenig FrameWorks is located at 97 South Main St., Newtown, CT.

The night coincides with Newtown's Ram Pasture holiday tree lighting. If you've never seen it, it is particularly beautiful, because the historic homes on Main Street put luminaria on their front lawns lighting the way to the tree. The tree lighting festivities start at 6:30 and the tree is illuminated at 7 pm. Then you can head on over to FrameWorks.
