Fourteen Threadless Needles
Photographs by Vito Pasquale

January 5 - March 30, 2012
Opening reception Saturday, January 28, 2012 4-6 pm*
*Snow date: Saturday, February 4, 2012, 4 - 6 pm

Vito Pasquale is a photographer and writer from Mount Kisco, NY. He is one of those people who, upon retiring from the full-time job he'd done in corporate America for almost thirty years, began to "peek down, as Frost would call it, 'the road not taken'". In 2008, Pasquale returned to writing after a long hiatus, and in 2009 he began taking photographs that reflected some of the themes in his writing. His book of poetry, Fourteen Threadless Needles, was published in 2011.

Many of Pasquale's photographs are abstracts and photo-manipulations that go beyond taking the world at face value. In his poem, "(Somewhere) After Silence (and) Before Regret", Pasquale refers to ". . .the surprisingly elastic properties of a dream." The photographs dance around that dream-state in the everyday.

Included in the show are several photographs that relate to Pasquale's history in the Danbury area. He grew up in Mount Kisco, NY and his father worked in Danbury until 1966 at a construction company that was located near the site of the train station just up Liberty Street. Coincidentally, this is a short distance from the Gallery at Still River Editions.

The fourteen photographs are connected to poems posted online via QR codes, which viewers can scan using their smart phones, or look at online in the gallery.

Give the Gift of Your Photographs or Art Prints
As you may know, photographs and prints of artwork make great gifts. Let us help you with your list this year! We can print on a selection of archival fine art papers and canvas.

Fine Art
The Affordable Art Exhibition and Sale will run until December 23--there are prints by 14 Connecticut artists, each priced at $100. Stop by and take a look if you haven't--it's a no-pressure atmosphere. The price is an amazing bargain given the talent and history of the artists included. If you live far away and are looking for something, I will email you jpgs on request.

Retouching
One of the most satisfying parts of my job is restoring photographs that have been ravaged by time. The originals are digitized with the utmost care, and we then work on the digital files. Come in for an evaluation/quote and look at our portfolio.

Small Works
Koenig FrameWorks in Newtown and Art & Frame of Danbury both have small works shows up for the holidays--support local business, and get some amazing originals by talented artists. Small works are a great way to build up a world-class art collection, and are an amazing bargain.

Be well, and let us know if there's anything we can do!

Colin Burke will be giving an artist's talk on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 5:30 pm at the Whitney Library of the New Haven Museum. Burke will discuss Deliquescence, his site-specific, interactive, multi-media installation which was commissioned by Artspace New Haven, and researched during a residency there. It includes multitudinous feet of microfilm from the New York Times collection previously destined for the landfill. Its enveloped columns reference a pair of New Haven elm trees planted 300 years ago.

The New Haven Museum is located at 114 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT.

The installation is part of a multi-venue exhibit called Library Science that features work by 17 international and seven New Haven-area artists, and was curated by Rachel Gugelberger, Senior Curator at Exit Art, New York. The exhibition runs from November 12, 2011 until January 28, 2012. The main gallery is Artspace New Haven, 50 Orange St., New Haven. Gallery views may be seen here.

Colin Burke is a multi-faceted visual artist who works in analog methods, including cyanotype photograms. He has also championed the camera obscura.

Bridgeport Art Trail, Nov. 10-13, 2011: Open Studios and More

The Bridgeport Art Trail will take place from Nov. 10 - 13, 2011 in around 30 venues around the city. Among the highlights are open studios at the American Fabrics building, 305 Knowlton St. building and Gallery 305K, City Lights Gallery, The Weather sKwirl, Denyse Schmidt Quilts, and many more.

Here is an article from the Connecticut Post that gives more information

Last year we went and had a blast. It's a little bit of a different vibe from New Haven's City Wide Open Studios, maybe just because of the slightly grittier/more industrial "feel" of the city. The overall quality of work is very high and includes a lot of affordable art and designer objects.
