Ben Larrabee one night pop-up show, "The Artist's Muse", Thursday, Oct. 9 at Southport Galleries

© Ben Larrabee
Darien photographer and Still River Editions client Ben Larrabee will be hosting a one-night pop-up show called "The Artist's Muse" featuring Larrabee's remarkable photographs of his wife and muse Trudie on Thursday October 9 from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm, Southport Galleries, 330 Pequot Ave., Southport, CT.

The exhibit and party celebrate a collection of nude studies taken over seventeen years.

From his website:  "The story of the artist and his muse is a long tradition in the arts. Some of Ben’s photography heroes such as Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Weston and Harry Callahan were all inspired to photograph their wives. Ben’s images of Trudie carry on the tradition of that lineage. They tell the story of their artist/muse relationship."

See Ben Larrabee's blog post on the collaborative nature of the artist/muse relationship "Receiving the Gifts of the Muse, Nantucket".

Trailer Box Gallery: "Beware of the Year 7000, Enter if You Dare"

In the exhibit "Beware of the Year 7000, Enter if You Dare [...] installation artists Janice Mauro and Joanne Pagano Weber ask the question, if corporations are people, too, what if they lose their humanity?"

The exhibition is at Trailer Box Gallery from September 27 to November 1, 2014. Trailer Box Gallery is located at 15 Great Pasture Rd., Unit 15, Danbury.

The exhibition release continues, "It's the second melting of the polar icecap.  The power of the few dictate the blueprint of a resurgent planet depleted once again.  All resources are up for grabs as the human race divides along biological/robotic fault lines.  While multitudes transition becoming semi-human mechanisms under the control of an artificial brain, two artists continue their work in hiding, corresponding by the only thing they have left - their creativity.

Art lovers, thinkers, prophets, or gamers, look no further.

This exhibit will be shown in conjunction with a sister show at City Lights Gallery, 37 Markle Court, Downtown Bridgeport, Ct, opening September 25 - October 22."

Digital embroidery, hooking,
and encaustic on linen
The exhibition "Undomesticated" by Leslie Giuliani highlights her hybrid textile artwork at the Vassos Gallery at Silvermine Arts Center from Friday, September 19 through November 2, 2014. There will be an opening reception on Friday, September 19 from 6 pm - 8 pm. The Silvermine Arts Center is located at 1037 Silvermine Rd., New Canaan, CT.

Giuliani says, "This exhibition will include works featuring a range of textile technique combinations including digital embroidery, hand embroidery, digital textile printing, cyanotype photography, sewing and rug hooking embellished with encaustic painting.

Juxtaposing images naturally creates free narrative associations. The images and compositions and the stories they imply are interesting, colorful and fun on their own but beyond that, the unusual combination of materials will compel further exploration.

The embroidered and printed images will all be translations of my original drawings and paper cutouts into textile form. Rug hooking will be used, not in a traditional functional way, rather, as a means to color areas and draw lines."

Giuliani will be in the gallery every Wednesday during the run of the show, working and giving demos including rug hooking and digital embroidery. For more information, please see Silvermine's website.
