Chris Randall exhibiting at Spruce Home & Garden, New Milford

New Haven photographer Chris Randall is exhibiting photographs in the Spruce Home & Garden Store, 20 Bank St., New Milford, CT. There is an opening reception from 5 pm - 8 pm on Thursday, November 1, 2012.

The photographs are from "his series documenting the derelict Winchester factory [that] captures the melancholy and beauty of a once bustling enterprise left to decay in its own history."

Randall, who is Executive Director of the New Haven Land Trust, is one half of the team behind ilovenewhaven.org along with photographer Jeffrey Kerekes.

Randall was also one of the minds and cameras behind Inside Out NHV, which created large black and white photographic portraits of New Haven residents, and installed the prints as a photo mural on a highway underpass that divides their neighborhood earlier in 2012.

Call for Small Works Submissions at Koenig FrameWorks, Newtown

Koenig FrameWorks in Newtown, CT is calling for entries to its annual "Small Works" exhibit. They will receive work in person Saturday Nov. 10 through Monday, Nov. 19 during normal business hours 10 am - 5 pm. Artwork must be ready-to-hang and be able to fit inside a space 12"x12". Any medium except sculpture will be accepted.

"Creativity and Compassion" faculty exhibition at WCSU

Co-owner of Connecticut Photographics, Catherine Vanaria, is also a full-time professor of photography at Western Connecticut State University. She is one of the 24 art faculty included in the WCSU faculty art exhibition titled "Creativity and Compassion" from Oct. 11 through Nov. 29 at the Higgins Gallery in Higgins Hall on the university's midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury.

There is an artist reception at 5 pm on Thursday, October 11.

"The exhibition will consist of works by 24 full-time and adjunct art faculty in a wide variety of media, including photography, printmaking, sculpture, drawing and painting. This presents a unique opportunity to view one exhibition that brings together the personal work of so many instructors in the university's department of art. Some works are for sale."

Laurie Lambrecht exhibit and lecture at The Gershman Y, Philadelphia

Laurie Lambrecht will be giving a lecture based on her photographs and book "Roy Lichtenstein In His Studio" at the Gershman Y, 401 South Broad St., Philadelphia, PA on October 18, 2012 from 6 - 8 pm. She will also be signing books at that time.  Work from the series will be exhibited until November 18, 2012.

Grace Scharr McEnaney selected for Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club Annual Open Juried Exhibition

Watercolorist Grace Scharr McEnaney has been selected for the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club 116th Annual Open Juried Exhibition from October 2 - 26, 2012 at the National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park South, NY, NY. There is a benefit reception for the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Friday, October 12, from 5:30 - 8:30 pm, and an award dinner on Friday, October 26, from 6 - 9 pm.

The Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club is "a national organization to show and promote works by professional women artists, founded in 1896". According to the group's website, Wolfe was "the only woman among the 106 founders of the Metropolitan Museum of Art".

Still River Editions at City Wide Open Studios Erector Square Weekend

Mark Savoia and Catherine Vanaria of Still River Editions will be exhibiting their photography in a temporary studio at Erector Square, 215 Peck St., New Haven for City Wide Open Studios on Saturday October 13 and Sunday, October 14 from noon - 5 pm each day. Savoia and Vanaria will be in Building 5, 2nd Floor.

Also exhibiting on the same floor is Tony Donovan of Ivoryton Studios, Ivoryton, CT.

Savoia will be featuring gel transfer photographs. Vanaria will be featuring her "HEADshots," black and white portraits taken with her antique 8"x10" film camera.

City Wide Open Studios is a three-weekend celebration of the arts in New Haven. The following "Alternative Space" weekend, October 20 and 21, will take place at the former New Haven Register building at 40 Sargent Drive, New Haven (and also repurposing delivery trucks in the parking lot.)

Marko Susla's night photographs published in Still Point Arts Quarterly

A portfolio of night photography by Marko Susla of Edison, NJ is being published in the Fall 2012 edition of the Still Point Arts Quarterly curated by Still Point Arts Gallery Director Christine Brooks Cote.  The portfolio consists of a sampling of Susla's photographs taken while “carrying out his ritual of capturing the night”.

The Still Point Arts Quarterly is a printed serial art and literary publication focusing on issues of expression, imagination, and inspiration.  Each issue includes extensive portfolios of contemporary artists as well as articles, essays, fiction, and poetry about art, artists, and artistry.  The Still Point Arts Quarterly is available online and in bookstores in the US and Canada.

In addition, Susla's black and white night photograph of Manhattan's High Line park is featured in the 2nd Annual Affordable Art Exhibition at the Gallery at Still River Editions.

Art filled weekend October 5 - 6, 2012

This weekend there is an especially high number of art activities in which we folks here at the Gallery at Still River Editions involved.

Friday night, City Wide Open Studios New Haven kicks off from 5-8 pm at Artspace, and I (Lys Guillorn) will be doing an installation for L.A.M.P. (Light Artists Making Places) from 8 - 11 pm in front of Graffio Jewelers, 28 Orange, St., New Haven. 20+ artists will be making art with light in 9th Square. Maps will be available of all the sites, and all are within short walking distance of each other.

Saturday, October 6, there will be an exhibit opening for the Affordable Art Exhibition: Photography at Still River Editions from 4-6 pm at 128 East Liberty St., Danbury, CT. Seventeen contemporary fine art photographers, all prints priced $100.

There is an opening reception on Saturday, September 22 from 5-7 pm.

Mark Savoia's images are observations of the ironies and visual contradictions seen in daily life. Catherine Vanaria's images are "HEADshots" taken at close range with her antique film 8"x10" camera at Connecticut Photographics / Still River Editions. Lys Guillorn's seven new black and white photographs draw from her "Route 34 Series".

Eric Camiel and Randy Lagana at Koenig FrameWorks Gallery; Newtown Arts Festival

Sculptor Eric Camiel and painter Randy Lagana are featured in a two-person exhibition at Koenig FrameWorks and Gallery, 97 South Main St., Newtown, CT until September 29, 2012, with a reception on Thursday, September 13 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. The reception is free and open to the public.

Also of interest in Newtown is the Newtown Arts Festival which will take place at the former Fairfield Hills on Trades Lane in Newtown, on Sat., Sept. 15 and Sun., Sept. 16, both days 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. ". . . another Viewpoint - Photographs by Jay Misencik" is an exhibition of Misencik's photographs of Bridgeport, Maine, Nova Scotia, Ecuador, and studio-made Polaroid photo transfers that will run from September 6 through October 15, 2012 with an opening reception on Wednesday, September 12 at the Easton Public Library Gallery Room located at 691 Morehouse Rd., Easton, CT. The exhibit was curated by Dolly Curtis.

Affordable Art Exhibition: Photography opens at Still River Editions on October 6, 2012

The Gallery at Still River Editions is pleased to announce its 2nd Annual Affordable Art Exhibition from October 6 - December 21, 2012. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, October 6 from 4 - 6 pm. This year's exhibit features 16 photographers from Connecticut and one from New Jersey.

Last year's exhibit featured 14 fine artists from Connecticut.

"Brief Monuments" at the Orison Project

The exhibition "Brief Monuments: Making and Unmaking Memory", curated by Stephen Vincent Kobasa, is at at the Orison Project, 8 Railroad Ave., Building 7, Essex, CT from Sept. 7 to Oct. 20, 2012. There will be an opening reception on Friday, September 7 from 6 - 8 pm.

The exhibit features photographs by Paul Duda, Walker Evans, Lys Guillorn (of Still River Editions), Robert Lisak, Oscar Palacio, Katia Porter, William Williams, and sculpture by Heinz Warneke.

The gallery will host "A Conversation Between Robert Lisak, Photographer, and Stephen Vincent Kobasa, Writer and Curator"on Weds. Oct. 3 at 6 pm.

Bill Eppridge "One America, One American"

"One America, One American: Robert F. Kennedy through the lens of Bill Eppridge" will be on exhibit in the Charlotte Observer Lobby from Sept. 4 - Oct. 19, 2012, through the Echo Foundation.

According to their website, the mission of the organization is to ask "What can one person do?" to further humanitarian causes. "One America, One American," answers this through the photographs of Bill Eppridge.

Eppridge photographed Robert F. Kennedy extensively for Life Magazine, developing a rapport with Kennedy and creating intimate portraits of both a man and his profound effect on people. Eppridge lives in New Milford, CT. Still River Editions of Danbury, CT performed the high-resolution scans of Eppridge's photographs for the exhibit and book A Time it Was: Bobby Kennedy in the Sixties.

The exhibit in Charlotte is in conjunction with the Echo Foundation's 2012 "New Visions. New Media." student photo competition. The grand prize of the photography competition is one day photo shoot with Bill Eppridge at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC.

HVCA 2nd juried outdoor show: "DisH"

The Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance has announced that photographer Shona Curtis placed "Best of Show" in its second outdoor juried photography exhibition, "DisH" taking place in downtown Danbury, Connecticut. The other photographers chosen for the exhibition are Dennis Yates, Paula Antolini, Elisabeth Levy and Cynthia O'Connor.

Twelve photographs by the artists will be displayed at Kennedy Park, the location of Danbury's weekly Farmer's Market.

The exhibition was judged by sculptor Eric Camiel, photographer Ursula Herczku and Peter Born, executive editor at Women's Wear Daily. The exhibition was sponsored by HARTransit.

There is an opening reception on Friday, August 24, 2012. From 3:45 - 4:15 pm there will be an unveiling at the Danbury Farmer's Market at Kennedy Park, followed by a reception from 4:30 - 6:00 pm at the Danbury Museum and Historical Society, 43 Main St., Danbury. Still River Editions sponsors Windows on Main St., Beacon, NY

Still River Editions is one of the sponsors of Beacon NY's Windows on Main St., 2012. It runs from August 11 through September 8. There will be a closing party and book signing on Saturday, September 8, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Chill Wine Bar, 173 Main St., Beacon.


Sixty Beacon-area artists of all media are featured in the storefront windows of Beacon's Main St. From their website: "Windows on Main Street is a collaborative project between artists and businesses — engaging residents and visitors alike through a public display of art along Beacon’s historic Main Street. The exhibit explores how art can provide cultural and social understanding, be a catalyst for economic improvement in communities, and strengthen the relationship between residents and artists."

SoNo Arts Celebration Aug. 3-5, 2012 and SoNoMART, Aug. 4

The 37th annual SoNo Arts Celebration takes place August 3, 4-5, 2012 in historic South Norwalk, Connecticut. It is a juried arts festival with fine arts and crafts vendors, food, and music. There are activities for children including giant puppets.

During the festival, on Saturday, August 4 from noon - 5 pm, Still River Editions' own Lys Guillorn will be participating in SoNoMART pop-up gallery and boutique hosted in creative placement's storefront at 13 North Main St., South Norwalk.  Others participating in SoNoMART are the Weather sKwirl, Designer Journals, MegaGlam, Franklin Street Works, and more. The pop up features "art, artisan crafts, handmade designer objects, jewelry, paper goods, apparel, vintage, modern, thrift, surprises." Guillorn will have handmade cards of her Holga photographs and various kinds of wearable art. 

The Mercurial Gallery Staff Show in Danbury

The Mercurial Gallery at 11 Library Place, Danbury is hosting its first Staff Art Show from July 28 through September 7, 2012. There is an opening reception on Saturday, July 28 from 5 pm - 7 pm.

Artists include Robert Rae (who also designed the Mercurial's new website), Katie Bassett, Joshua L. Durkin, Amanda Bloom, Jing Lu, Alec Jordan. Also included are gallery neighbors Erin Walrath, Chris Durante and David Haislip.

Jim Felice exhibit at Scott & Bowne

Sculptor Jim Felice of Ridgefield is featured in a one-artist show titled "Fresh Pop!" at Scott & Bowne in Kent, Connecticut from July 28 through September 3, 2012. There is an open in reception on Saturday, July 28 from 4 pm - 7 pm.
