“Postcards to an Island” is an exhibition of photographic collages by Ann Nicholson Brown taking place at The Gallery at Still River Editions in Danbury, CT from October 5 through December 18, 2020. Nicholson Brown’s photo collages were photographed at North Haven Island, Maine, where her family spends summers. The images combine photographs captured by Nicholson Brown in traditional and alternative photographic printmaking processes. The resulting collages juxtapose natural elements in fresh and sometimes mysterious combinations that awaken the senses. Ann Nicholson Brown is a resident of New Canaan, CT.
Nicholson Brown says of her work, “I begin by photographing the island’s woods, fields, and seacoast, a natural kingdom with all its plant life, rocks, shells, and bones bleached by the sun. I then dismantle and re-assemble the photographs by hand into a meditation on these gathered memories—patched and uncertain as my recollections of one summer blending into the next.” Full artist statement and bio here.
The gallery is open 8:30 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday except Monday, October 12 (Indigenous Peoples Day), November 26-27 (Thanksgiving holiday). Exhibition images will also be online at stillrivereditions.com.
