Still River Editions provides a simple process for you to achieve your final print, and we do all the work.

Preparation

Preparation involves discussing your needs and reviewing your artwork. From there, we will assist you in making decisions about your final print image size, borders, and paper type. We offer a range of media, featuring the finest archival art papers and canvases.

Scanning/Image Capture

All of our prints are produced from high resolution digital files, so the next step digitizes the image to our specifications. Try not to get too bogged down in the technical details, if you’re new to digital printmaking—we’ll make it easy on you.

If you work in a medium other than digital photography, having us scan your work ensures that the prints we make will be the best we can possibly make them. This is not always practical for you, if you are a distance from us and do not wish to ship the artwork to us, so we are happy to work with your existing professionally made transparencies or digital files.

If scanning of your artwork is required:

Still River Editions will scan your flat artwork up to 24"x30" or your color or black & white film up to 12"x18". We use high resolution flatbed and dedicated film scanners. The quality of the original greatly affects the quality of the print, so dirty or scratched film, artifacts on your artwork, will translate to the final print. Additional computer labor may be required to resolve this issue.

Need to figure out what size your original will print to proportionally? Use our print proportion calculator.

If you are providing the file to us, and no scan/image capture is required, please use the following settings:

Digital handicraft

Most of the work we do for you is “behind the scenes”. Still River Editions spends a lot of time on your digitized image to give it the spirit of your original artwork. Our computer monitors and printers are calibrated specially so our prints are consistent. Many adjustments are made between the digitization stage and the printing stage, and we do side-by side comparisons under controlled lighting.

Proofing for your approval

Proofing is a very important part of the artist/printmaker relationship. If your print will be 16”x20” or larger, we can provide you with an 8.5”x11” proof print on the media you have chosen before we proceed to the final print. There is no additional fee for this proof print, and once you sign off on it, we will keep it as a match print to assure consistency for future printing sessions.

If you decide to decline this option we will print your final image to the best of our capabilities and you are responsible for accepting the final print. If after that you decide to make changes, additional charges will occur.

Printing

After you have approved your proof print, you final print is produced with extreme detail to final specifications.

Re-orders

Future reprints are made very easily by calling us or e-mailing us. We will keep your file(s) archived for one year from your most recent order with us. You will also be given your digitally processed file(s) on a CD or DVD with your final print(s). Please store this responsibly, loss of this will require a complete re-start of the scanning/printing process, incurring new costs. After one year (unless arrangements have been made with us) your file(s) will be destroyed, so please maintain the provided CD or DVD with utmost care.

Certificates of Authenticity are available for all prints, just ask.
